Blaine H. Carr, PhD, is a Licensed Psychologist in private practice in North Austin specializing in psychological testing and long-term psychotherapy for adults and adolescents. He also serves as a consultant to businesses and organizations that need personalized assistance from a psychological perspective on improving working relationships and productivity in the business world.
Dr. Carr has been in private practice since 2003. He began his career as a staff psychologist working with adults and young people at the Austin State Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric hospital. He has also worked in a variety of other settings, including outpatient mental health clinics, counseling centers, medical clinics, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers. He has had advanced training from national and international experts in collaborative assessment, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and psychological testing. He completed the two-year Studies in Adult Psychodynamic Psychotherapy program through the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies (formerly the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Institute), an organization accredited by the American Psychoanalytic Association.
Dr. Carr has served terms as President and Vice President of CAPA, and Education Chair of ASPP. He is a member of the following professional organizations: Society for Personality Assessment, Capitol Area Psychological Association (CAPA), and Austin Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology (ASPP). He is also listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers.
Dr. Carr received his Doctoral and Master’s degrees from The University of Texas at Austin. He completed his internship at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Temple,Texas. Prior to his graduate training, Dr. Carr worked in research and development for The Psychological Corporation, a company that designs and publishes psychological tests. His undergraduate training was completed at Trinity University in San Antonio,Texas.
